Team USA Hockey History Maker: Highlighting LVF Scholar Chyna Taylor

LVF scholar Chyna Taylor is a force to be reckoned with—on the ice and beyond.

At just 15 years old, the Louisville, Kentucky native made history as the first hockey player from her state to represent the U.S. at an IIHF event. Competing at the 2025 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in Finland, Chyna helped Team USA bring home silver, all while turning heads with her speed, poise, and breakout performance on defense.

But Chyna’s path to the international stage wasn’t typical. She started on the ice as a figure skater, but by age six, her eyes were locked on something else: hockey. Once she picked up a stick, there was no going back. She joined the Louisville Ice Cardinals boys’ team and quickly stood out not just as a girl in the game, but as a talent who could hold her own.

By middle school, she was chasing more opportunity. Chyna discovered Lovell Academy in Massachusetts—now in her third year at Lovell, she’s one of the top defensive prospects in her age group.

During the U18 World Championship, Chyna logged big minutes on the blue line and picked up two assists in six games. While the silver medal was a proud moment, she’s already thinking about what’s next: more growth, more impact, and more representation.

Now committed to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Chyna continues to rise, following in the footsteps of trailblazers like Laila Edwards, the first Black player on the U.S. women’s national team.
